Spring is undoubtedly the most-awaited & anticipated season. Spring arrives with a sudden warmth of the sun and marks the end of the winter’s cold. The first day of spring brings many promises & we rejoice in the positive energy and vigour with excited hearts! This beautiful season deserves a beautiful welcome indeed & what beter way to start off with Arbor week in South Africa!
Arbor Day, also known as Tree day, was founded in 1872 by J. Sterling Morton, with the first celebration on 10 April 1872. Arbor is the Latin word for tree.
Arbor day is a campaign to celebrate the preservation of our trees & in the process raising awareness about their roles.
The Heart of the tree
By Henry Cuyler Bunner (1855-1896)
“…What does he plant who plants a tree?
He plants cool shade and tender rain,
And seed and bud of days to be,
And years that fade and flush again;
He plants the glory of the plain;
He plants the forest’s heritage;
The harvest of a coming age;
The joy that unborn eyes shall see —
These things he plants who plants a tree…”
